Apple releases Power Mac G5 Single 1.8GHz Firmware Update

Apple has quietly released a Firmware update for the PowerMac G5 Single 1.8Ghz (late 2004). This update should fix major issues Mac OS X Tiger users have on this PowerMac model. The issue was aknowledged by Apple in late Septembern,a few weeks after the company dropped this model from its store in June. The issue wasn't fixed with Mac OS X 10.4.3 as many users have been expecting and hoping.

Here is the description provided by Apple:

This Power Mac G5 System Firmware Update is only for the 1.8 GHz, (600 MHz bus), single-processor Power Mac G5 (Late 2004) computer. This update improves the reliability of your Power Mac G5, especially after it has been inactive for two hours.

Apple provides two different files. The first is for users that run Mac OS X 10.3.9 and the second is for users that run Mac OS X 10.4.3. It is important to choose the right version and to follow carefully the instructions provided in the note that comes with it.

Apple has also updated its note that aknowledged the issues, it now links to the firmware update pages. If you are owner of this model of PowerMac, we expect your feedback on this update.
