Adobe to abandon Freehand and GoLive? (UPDATE)

According to an unconfirmed report, Adobe's European Marketing VP told during Adobe Live this week that the company will discontinue Freehand and GoLive, in favor of Illustrator and Dreamweaver.

Earlier, today, Adobe's PR department denied claims that Freehand will be discontinued and there is no official announcement from the company yet.

Last year, Adobe bought Macromedia, the makers of Freehand, a very high quality alternative to Illustrator and Dreamweaver which is considered as the best WYSIWYG web development application.

GoLive, formerly called "Cyberstudio", was initially a product from a small but very innovative company called GoLive. At that time it was only available to the Mac platform, but Adobe bought the company and ported the application on Windows.

UPDATE: Adobe now claims that GoLive will be kept as a separate product but will focus on specialized markets while Freehand will remain maintained as long as it has enough customers.
