UK Apple Store hints at 8-Core Mac Pros

Apple has unintentionally leaked on its UK online store a reference to what could be the company's forthcoming high-end Mac Pro line-up.

As, MacRumors' readers noticed earlier today, performing a search with the term "Mac" on the UK store will bring you this among the results:

"Mac Pro
Now quad-core or 8-core processing power.
Configure yours today."

This not only hints at forthcoming 8-core Xeon-based Mac Pros but also at the possibility that Apple keeps quad-core Mac Pros in the line-up.

The last point is confirming a part of our late last year's report which was expecting January release of 8-Core Mac Pros and a less expensive 4-core configuration remaining in the line-up.

Meanwhile, this week, Intel has released the new Xeon L5320 and L5310 chips. These 8-core chips consume significantly less power than the first generation of Intel 8-core Xeon chips released late last year and even less power than 4-core Xeons used in the current Mac Pro line-up.

I think there is a fair

I think there is a fair chance that there will be at least a minor across-the-board hardware research at the time that Leopard is released.

Since Time Machine needs a backup drive, I think all Macs will get a second disk, or, in the case of laptops, possibly a larger disk with two partitions.

It will be good news if

It will be good news if Apple indeed keeps the quad-core version in the line-up with a lower price. Current Mac Pros are way too expensive even for some pros.
