Leopard now selling for $99 (UPDATEx2)

UPDATEx2: JR has stopped the special offer at $99, but Amazon continues its "16% off" offer and sells Leopard for $109.

UPDATE: The deal is offered through a partnership between Amazon and J&R Music and Computer World which will ship the product.

Apple's just released next generation operating system, Mac OS X Leopard 10.5 is now selling for just $99.99 or a 22% drop from its original price.

The online retailer Amazon.com, which has already been offering Leopard at $109 instead of $129 (16% off), is now allowing its customers to save as much as $29.01 for the purchase of a Single-user Leopard license.

The Family Pack version remains priced at $189 instead of $199, the same 10% cut the online retailer has been offering for a dozen days.

Amazon is intentionally hiding the price tag of the Single-user version of Leopard on its site, and explains that sometimes suppliers don't want the retailer to show the price of the product when it drops below a certain amount.

The price tag is replaced by a "Click here to see the price" link which reveals the price on a pop-up window:

Meanwhile, it appears that Apple's new operating system is a best-seller as it tops Amazon's software sales since its launch.

I'm a new MAC user as of

I'm a new MAC user as of May. This is the SECOND time being stunk with Apple's price cuts.

Ok, consider this a cheap

Ok, consider this a cheap lesson. Unless you're a diehard Mac user and absolutely have to have everything as soon as it comes out, then wait a bit. I am a diehard (I even own stock) and the only reason I bought a iPhone the second day was because I was totally fed up with my Treo 650. It was worth the premium. Every penny. If you look at what M$ is trying to do with Vi$ta Leopard is dirt cheap, enjoy it. Just consider that $20 a small premium that'll pay for itself many many many times over with not having to screw with your system to get it to work after a virus attack.

OK...call me jetlagged, but

OK...call me jetlagged, but I should have read the story better. Hey...a 6 hour time change! I didn't read that another site was selling it for less. I thought Apple had dumped the price on their site.

I agree...the iPhone is worth it's weight. I got mine on day two...extensive travel and needed a calendar. I waited months for it come out...and glad I did. If not for the ease of use and functionality, but perhaps the attention I still get because of it.

Back on eastern time zone and am now reading things clearly. Duh!

And yeah...I got stock too :-)

It's AMAZONs price cut NOT

It's AMAZONs price cut NOT Apples!!!!
Amazons been pre-selling it for months, you could have order it form them!

The discount is from J&R

The discount is from J&R Music World not Amazon...

As you can see at the top of the graphic posted above... the $99 price is coming from J&R. One of Amazon's 3rd party resellers. (jr.com)

If you click the new/used link you will see that Amazon is still selling their copy for $109.

Here's the link:

I've seen some really weird glitches in Amazon's search since they put up their new skin/interface. Mostly in searching CDs/music... like, if you search and find an album then click the artist link you may see an entirely different selection of the artist's other albums than if you search the artist's name directly. Sometimes it's frustratingly wrong. Some albums I've even had to "trick" the search function to find at all. This all just started in the last week. Anyway, I think JR getting top billing for OSX is just one more glitch.

Check out CompUSA. They're

Check out CompUSA. They're offering a $30 rebate on OS X Leopard. That's even better than Amazon and J&R's deals if someone else is paying for the software. ;-)

Oops. Looks like CompUSA's

Oops. Looks like CompUSA's rebate offer has expired. Sorry.
