VMWare Fusion 2 to add support for Mac OS X Server
VMWare, which is a subsidiary of EMC, has announced today it will bring support for Mac OS X Server to its VMWare Fusion virtual environment, confirming previous insider reports published by MacScoop.
VMWare Fusion 2 will add a 61th supported operating system to its list as the forthcoming version of the virtualisation tool will support Mac OS X Server. The client version of Apple's operating system will however remain unsupported.
This is the result of a collaboration with Apple which was initiated by VMWare almost two years ago, as reported by MacScoop at that time.
The second version of VMWare Fusion which will arrive very soon, will not only support Mac OS X Server but also allow to affect up to 8GB of RAM to the virtual environment.
A video showing Mac OS X Server running on Fusion 2 has been posted by VMWare. It highlights the quality of integration and the compatibility with peripherals.
SWSoft which makes a competing solution called Parrallels Workstation also announced recently it would bring support for Mac OS X Server.
In April 2006, MacScoop was also the first to reveal that VMWare would was being ported to Mac OS X. The official announcement by VMWare was made only a few weeks later.
