Readers reveal further information on Quartz Composer.

Submitted by Alexandros Roussos on Wed, 2004-10-27 14:37

In a thread posted on a major French Mac site?s forum (MacGeneration), a reader reveals that Apple?s Quartz Composer that I have mentioned in a recent article is actually just a newer version of a program called PixelShox.

Visiting PixelShox' site almost confirms the information :

Dear PixelShox Users,

Some of you will have noticed I was less active recently on the PixelShox Community web site. As a matter of fact, PixelShox Technology will no longer be actively supported. I have taken a full time position in the computer graphics field, where I hope to further build upon the revolutionary visual creation ideas behind PixelShox.

Let me thank you for your continuous support during the public beta period and your participation in the PixelShox Community web site. I'm happy to announce the release of an updated version of PixelShox Studio Public Beta which has no expiration date, so you can continue to enjoy the product (see at the bottom of this page).

A public beta is even available on the site and after downloading and testing it, it?s getting obvious that Quartz Composer is based on this piece of software.

Pierre Olivier Latour, the developer of PixelShox has also worked on a game project in the French company, French Touch. It looks like he has now joined Apple to work on Tiger graphics.

The graphing calculator is said to be based on Curvus Pro and sources confirm this information.
