The "iTV" drops the "i", set to ship in February
Along with the historic announcement of the iPhone, Apple has also released the Apple TV, formerly code-named "iTV", when the company unveiled the product in September 2006.
The Apple TV is a living-room entertainment appliance that focuses on very powerful streaming capabilities.
It features support for the 802.11n wireless standard which is still in draft status, 40GB of storage an Intel chipset, capable of decoding HD content in 720p resolution and a full range of connectors including an USB, Ethernet, digital/analog input/output and HDMI.
The user interface is similar to Front Row and allows easy access to the content in the device's hard drive or to up to five Macs or PCs in your house through streaming. That means you can watch content present on either of your house's computers right from your living-room wirelessly. It also allows you to auto-sync it with one of your computers, just like if it was an iPod.
The Apple TV costs $299 and is available for pre-order on the Apple Store. It will ship in February.
