Exclusive test of iSync beta with screenshots!

Submitted by Alexandros Roussos on Thu, 2002-09-12 20:14

One of my sources recently sent me a beta of iSync (code named BladeRunner) which is the palm/mobile/iPod synchronizing engine recently announced by Apple, to be available on the end of this month. I could test it with a friends' iPod and all I can say is that this thing seems really useful. So I have taken some screenshots to show you that it works!

I noticed that the installer hasn't got any license yet. Does it mean I can make it available for free download here? hum... I won't take any risk ;). After finishing installation, iSync's icon appears in the Applications folder. The launch is taking around 10 seconds then the main window appears (one of my sources claimed iSync launched very fast on an 800Mhz iMac).

As I ask iSync to look for devices, it finds the connected iPod and adds its icon on the main window. To setup my synchronization, I click on the iPod icon and I have some settings. Once everything is set I can start the synchronizing by clicking on "Synchronize". Then iSync sends the data of the Mac to the iPod and checks change made on my iPod's data. Once done with the iPod, I tryed a .Mac synchronization but I couldn't get it work, it couldn't connect to the server. On iSync's preferences, you can set to show iSync in the menu bar, and when to show confirmation messages. It is also possible to syncrhonize your Mac with a device without laucnhing iSync, using the iSync menu bar. Actually, the synchronisation starts as soon as you connect your device.

This application is really nice and useful for those who spend time copying their contacts from their Mac to their cell-phone, Palm or iPod and vice-versa.
