Apple has updated the iPhone section of its web site with a detailed demo of how the iPhone's keyboard works and which technologies are behind it.

The video explains that it's better to start typing with one thumb until you get used to this virtual keyboard. It appears that more experienced users will type quite fast with two thumbs. At least that's what Apple wants to tell us.

Apple also explains the technologies behind this virtual keyboard. It's real-tme typing correction uses a dictionary as well as the address book for names so as to guess what you might have mistyped.

The user interface is very intuitive and modular. As you type, suggestions pop-up near the mispelled word and are accepted with the space bar or refused by tapping on them. The keyboard ins't exactly the same for all the applications. For example, on Safari, the space bar is replaced by the dot, slash and .com keys.

Walt Mossberg, who's quite known to be friend with Apple's CEO, reassured potential buyers in a review [1] published yesterday on the Wall Street Journal's web site.

With this demo video, Apple responds to a major concern on the iPhone's success. Though it's mainly a media oriented cell-phone, typing is one very important criteria, considering the device allows to send emails, text messages and has a full-featured web navigator.
