Apple has acquired the CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) project according to a posting posted on Cups.org [1] web site.
"In February of 2007, Apple Inc. acquired ownership the CUPS source code and hired me, the creator of CUPS. CUPS will still be released under the existing GPL2/LGPL2 licensing terms, and I will continue to develop and support CUPS at Apple.", Michael R Sweet writes.
Apple has been using CUPS as printing system for Mac OS X for a while. Such a move will help the company to control and orient the development of this project according to its needs, and improve Mac OS X' printing support.
