iTunes becomes second music retailer in the U.S.A.

Apple announced it is now the second biggest music retailer in the U.S.A in a press release posted on its web site earlier this Tuesday.

The first retailer remains Wall Mart while Target which was initially the second retailer now has the third spot.

At the same time, Apple announced it has sold over 4 billion songs through iTunes since its launch in April 2002. The music store is now selling at the rate of over a billion songs a year. On Christmas alone, the company sold as many as 20 million songs.

iTunes currently offers a catalog of over 6 million songs from all major and independent labels. The service initially started with 500 000 songs.
