Apple and Rogers announced today that they agreed over the distribution of the iPhone in Canada.

Rogers, which is the main mobile telecommunications provider in Canada will sell the iPhone through an exclusivity deal signed with Apple.

"By far the most important news for the stock today is that Rogers has signed a deal to launch the Apple iPhone later this year," National Bank Financial analyst Greg MacDonald wrote in a note to clients (Reuters [Array]).

As the statement indicates, no details on the plans or the availability date are provided for the moment.

"It is safe to assume the launch will be before the important holiday season and possibly before the back to school third-quarter period," MacDonald told Reuters.

Rogers is known for its currently unaffordable data plans but there are hopes that the situation will improve with the arrival of the iPhone in the country.
