Apple to buy Universal Music? UPDATED!

Submitted by Alexandros Roussos on Thu, 2003-04-10 22:21

UPDATE: I suggest you to take a look at the first comments gave by people close to the discussions on a NY Times article here.

According to some sources, Apple may be discussing with Vivendi Universal the purchase of Universal Music unit. This rumor isn't verified yet but I believe Reuters (read also this article) is quite a reliable source.

This is quite unbeleivable but seems like it's official when you read the article I just mentioned. Apple has always prefered huge partnerships than merges with other big companies so that could end on a big partnership between Apple and Vivendi Universal and that's what some sources told me too. Now I think we should wait and see.

Whatever is the result of these discussions, I think that although Universal Music could cost to Apple a lot of money. Apple Computer, the company so loved by consumers and also by artists, is probably the only company that can make a music industry revolution, legalizing the download of Music and make artists, consumers and themselves happy.
