Seagate announces roadmap for perpendicular recording based products
As notes MacWorld UK, Seagate announced today its plans to release hard disks based on perpendicular recording as soon as early next year.
The company provides a quite clear roadmap which will start with the release of new 2.5" drives based on this new technology on early 2006. Seagate will also release 80GB 1"drives later in the year and will finally use its technology to extend the capacity of its 3.5"drives. All of its products will use this technology by late 2006.
Other companies such as Hitachi and Fujitsu announced their plans to use this technology. We can expect that this technology will quickly arrive in future iPods soon after the availability of the first hard disks using it.
